BHP and the Internet
Abstract:
"BHP began its involvement in the Australian networking scene with
multiple connections to ACSnet by several BHP divisions. Several years
ago BHP Research obtained a full Internet connection into AARNet. This
paper traces the history of our connection, how Internet usage has
grown within BHP Research and also looks at the current efforts to
widen the exposure of staff in other BHP groups to Internet services."
Biography:
"Ian Hoyle is a Senior Research Scientist at BHP Research, where he
is responsible for the development of high performance computing and
the development of Internet network services. Until recently he was
primarily involved in scientific visualization research.
He is the BHP internic handle, responsible for the BHP tcp/ip address
space, and is currently a member of the AARNet Engineering Work Group,
chairing the resource discovery working group. This year he is the chairman
of the Australian Unix Users Group conference in Melbourne in September.
He received a BSC (Hons) in theoretical physics from the University of
NSW and also a BSc (Hons) and PhD in geophysics from the University of
New England."
